On a visit Monday to Colombia, Vice President Joe Biden praised the strides the country has made over the course of the last decade.
Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos reflected on a visit Biden made to the South American country 13 years ago, when an aid initiative designed to end the bloody armed conflict with guerillas there was still in its early stages.
“Today, when we have the first point of accord with the Farc guerrillas, we see a chance to bring a shining closing to what we began 13 years ago”, Santos said, according to a pool report.
Biden echoed the sentiment, touting the “remarkable progress of Colombia” and saying the country is now a true negotiating partner with the United States.
“As we supported you in the battlefield, we fully support you in the negotiation table,” Biden said, per the pool report.
