UPDATE: Dec. 10, 2014, 4:40 PM ET

No shots were fired and no injuries reported after an armed man drove onto the Arkansas State University campus Thursday. Authorities quickly surrounded the man and took him into custody after bringing in a negotiator.

A campus alert prompted a campus lockdown, and final exams were rescheduled.

The Jonesboro Sun, the local newspaper, tweeted information from the police chief that the armed man was “armed with shotgun” and had “two propane tanks ready to blow.”

The university issued an alert at 1:36 p.m. and asked campus to shelter in place.

University spokesman Bill Smith told the Associated Press a negotiator was dispatched to the scene to talk with the suspect, but it was unclear what discussions took place.

“Our tactical people are getting themselves in a position to respond as well,” Holmes told AP.

A student tweeted a photo of the scene:

The school is located in Jonesboro, Arkansas, about 130 miles northeast of Little Rock.
