Comedian and actress Amy Schumer is teaming up with her cousin, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), to unveil new gun control legislation following a mass shooting at a screening of her latest movie.
Schumer plans to join the Democratic lawmaker to announce a three-part plan to make it harder for violent criminals and mentally ill people to obtain firearms, the Associated Press reported Monday.
On Saturday, Schumer hinted she would be doing more than just sending a tweet of support.
@cdickason11 @sfclem Her name was Mayci, not Marci and I think about her and Jillian everyday. Don’t worry I’m on it. You’ll see.

The legislation would create monetary rewards for states that submit all relevant records to the background check system while penalizing those that do not. The senator will also call for preservation of funding for mental health and substance abuse programs, according to the Guardian US.
The comedian was thrust into the national debate around guns after a man shot 11 and killed two at a July screening of her film “Trainwreck” in Lafayette, La.
My heart is broken and all my thoughts and prayers are with everyone in Louisiana.
