When Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump appeared via webcam on conspiracy theorist extraordinaire Alex Jones’ web show Wednesday, the two gushed about their admiration for each other.
A post on infowars.com described Trump’s appearance on the show as a “a surprise radio interview that rocked the political establishment.” Jones introduced Trump by first explaining that they were both “self-made” and calling the real estate mogul a “true maverick.” He complimented Trump several more times over the course of the wide-ranging interview and told the real estate mogul that he had the support of most listeners.
“You’re a top business guy, on your own — from nothing,” Jones said at one point, omitting that Trump was given a $1 million loan by his father. On the campaign trail, Trump has referred to the loan as “small.”
Trump also took time to defend his repeatedly debunked story that he saw American Muslims cheering the fall of the Twin Towers on 9/11. He was in friendly territory, as Jones is a longtime 9/11-truther and said Trump’s false claims had been “vindicated.”
“I knew it happened and I held my line,” Trump said. “And people wanted me to apologize, and we can’t do that. People like you and I can’t do that so easily. Now, we can do it if we are wrong.”
The love fest ended on a complimentary note as well.
“Your reputation is amazing,” Trump told Jones. “I will not let you down.”
Previously, Jones had been vocal about his support for Trump’s presidential rival, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY).
