After the raid that killed Osama bin Laden in Pakistan, chief counterterrorism adviser John Brennan gave reporters a blow-by-blow account of the operation. But as David Sanger reports in his new book “Confront and Conceal,” Defense Secretary Robert Gates told Brennan that he had a “new strategic communications approach to recommend.”
The approach? “Shut the fuck up,” Gates said.
