Graham Brings Senate Deal on Government Funding to a Halt

The Senate Thursday evening struck a deal with the White House to fund the federal government. The plan, which came together after negotiations between the Trump White House and Senate Democrats, includes a two-week continuing resolution for the DHS funding bill alongside the passage of the remaining five full-year appropriations bills.

But Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), who is unhappy with a House-backed provision included in one of the bills, brought Senate business to a halt. The provision in question would repeal a law allowing senators to receive cash payouts if they had their phone records seized during Jack Smith’s investigation.

The Senate will be back on Friday to try and vote on the negotiated package and CR. If the Senate is able to pass them, the bills will head to the House for a vote, though the details of how, if or when that will happen remain unclear.
