Micro-blogging service Twitter is being investigated by the Federal Trade Commission, according to Business Insider.

BI reports that the FTC has contacted Tweetup, a company started by tech entrepreneur Bill Gross.

There’s not much information on exactly what the nature of the communications is, but the implications of the BI article is that Twitter has been behaving anti-competitively by blocking third-party apps, and by developing and buying its own apps (like TweetDeck) that compete with third-party developers.

In the meantime, GigaOm reports that Twitter is trying to improve its relationship with third party developers by creating a new site with information dedicated to developers working on apps for the Twitter platform.

Twitter did not immediately respond to TPM’s request for comment.
