- Obama has to fire up young people: President Obama needs to fire up young people as an important part of his diverse supporters who could reelect him in November. This week, the President is heading to college campuses to promote his administration’s attempts to keep federal student loan interest rates down.
- Romney’s call for big donations hits a roadblock: The Romney campaign and the RNC set up the Romney Victory fund in order to take in big donations of up to $75,800. But potential donors from Wall Street are skittish because of new SEC rules which prevent investment advisers from influencing elections in states where they are trying to win business, reports the Wall Street Journal.
- Daniels would ask for ‘reconsideration’ if selected for VP: Mitch Daniels did not mince words when saying that he would not accept the vice presidential spot if offered. “I think I would demand reconsideration and send Mr. Romney a list of people I think could suit better,” Daniels said on “Fox News Sunday.”
- Grab a bite with Ann Romney?: The Romney campaign is soliciting $5 donations by entering donors into a contest where the winner will “grab a bite” with Ann Romney. It’s a tactic used by the Obama campaign, which often uses meet-ups to draw out donations. The Romney campaign is also behind Obama’s in small-donor giving.
- Rubio no longer commenting on veepstakes: After giving a few different responses to questions about being the VP pick, Sen. Marco Rubio is now saying he won’t talk about it any more. “I’m not gonna even discuss the process anymore,” Rubio said in an interview with CNN’s Candy Crowley. “I’m gonna be respectful of the process he’s put in place.”
- McCaskill targets super PACs: Embattled Sen. Claire McCaskill has a risky campaign strategy: go after the super PACs. McCaskill’s campaign could serve as a test-case for whether too much money can be a liability in the post-Citizens United era, reports the Washington Post.
- Daniels appears in ad for Lugar: Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels appears in the latest ad from embattled Sen. Dick Lugar fighting a challenge from State Treasurer Richard Mourdock. “The truth can take a beating in campaign time, and this year it’s Dick Lugar on the receiving end,” Daniels says in the ad. Referencing the money that’s come in for Mourdock from conservative and Tea Party groups, he says, “It’s funny in a way, these folks from elsewhere, here telling us who’s a real Hoosier.”
- Huntsman compares GOP to China: Former ambassador to China Jon Huntsman, who was uninvited from a GOP fundraiser in Florida in March because he called for a third party, said Sunday of the incident, “This is what they do in China on party matters if you talk off script.”
- Falk hits Walker on equal pay: Democratic candidate for governor in Wisconsin Kathleen Falk is attacking Gov. Scott Walker over his repeal of the state’s equal pay law. Falk and two other state lawmakers will hold a conference call with reporters Monday to push the attack. Walker has gotten national media attention for his quiet repeal of the state’s Equal Pay Enforcement Act.
- Romney campaigns in Pennsylvania: Mitt Romney will hold two events in Pennsylvania Monday, the day before the Pennsylvania primary. Romney will appear first at the Consol Energy Research and Development Facility in South Park Township, then host a town hall at Mustang Expediting in Aston.
