Poll: Romney Still Ahead In New Hampshire — Paul In Second

Presidential Candidate And Former Governor Mitt Romney (R-MA)

The new survey of the New Hampshire primary from Public Policy Polling (D) finds Mitt Romney still in command of the state — aided by the division of his many opponents — with Ron Paul coming in a distant second place, plus further evidence of Newt Gingrich collapsing.

The numbers: Romney 35%, Paul 19%, Gingrich 17%, Huntsman 13%, Bachmann 5%, Santorum 3%, Perry 2%, Johnson 1%. The survey of likely Republican primary voters was conducted from December 16-18, and has a ±2.8% margin of error.

From the pollster’s analysis:

Our New Hampshire poll reinforces our Iowa survey from last night showing Newt Gingrich’s support fading away. Only 42% of likely voters have a favorable opinion of him to 51% with a negative one. Gingrich is less popular in New Hampshire now than he was in the spring when he had a 45/36 favorability. And there’s increasingly a sense that he doesn’t have strong principles- only 34% think he does while 41% think he does not, numbers that pale in comparison to how Romney, Paul, and Huntsman come out on that question.
