Democrats raised $68 million from 583,000 donors in the fourth quarter of 2011 to help re-elect President Barack Obama, a spokesperson for the campaigntold TPM. The campaign said that 200,000 of the donors had never given before and that the average contribution this quarter was $55.
Federal Election Commission reports filed Tuesday show that Obama for America took in $39.9 million while the Obama Victory Fund 2012 took in $23.7 million during the last three months of 2011 (the discrepancy between the numbers was not immediately clear).
The Obama Victory Fund is a joint project of the Obama campaign and the Democratic National Committee. The campaign also released data showing their top bundlers for the fourth quarter of 2011, including names like Eva Longoria, Harvey Weinstein, Jeffrey Katzenberg of Dreamworks and fashion icon Anna Wintour.
Fundraising totals from current Republican contenders Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Ron Paul and Rick Santorum were not yet posted on the Federal Election Commission’s website at time of writing.
