Mitt Romney Takes On 9-9-9: ‘Simple Answers…Are Oftentimes Inadequate’

Herman Cain and Mitt Romney

So the big Herman Cain-Mitt Romney smackdown at Tuesday’s New Hampshire finally happened near the end of the 90 min session.

And it was pretty boring.

It began when Cain asked Romney to compare his long economic plan to Cain’s really short (9-9-9) plan as part of a debate segment where the candidates questions one another.

“The 9-9-9 plan that I have proposed a simple, transparent, efficient, fair, and neutral. The question is to Gov. Romney,” Cain said. “Can you name all 59 points in your 160 page plan, and does it satisfy the criteria being simple, transparent, efficient, fair, and neutral?”

Zing! When Cain promised to go after Romney in the debate, this must have been what he was talking about.

Romney responded with the softest of attacks on 9-9-9, which became a centerpiece of the debate.

“Herman, I have had the experience in my life in taking on some tough problems,” Romney said. “I must admit that simple answers are always very helpful, but oftentimes inadequate.”

Romney went on a long explanation of his long plan.

“Oh so, it is not simple, is what you are saying,” Cain said.

And there you have it. Pure fireworks
