Vice President Joe Biden will hit Mitt Romney with a one-two punch on immigration and tax returns in a speech to the National Council of La Raza Tuesday.
“Mitt Romney wants you to show your papers,” Biden plans to say, according to prepared remarks. “But he won’t show us his.”
In recent days, the Obama campaign and its allies have tried to leverage Romney’s terrible poll numbers among Hispanics and his reticence to release more than a single year of his tax returns.
Biden’s prepared remarks straddle both topics neatly.
“When his father, George Romney, was a candidate was for president in 1968, he released 12 years of tax returns because, as he said, ‘One year could be a fluke, perhaps done for show,'” Biden says in the excerpts, echoing a line thrown at Romney by Republicans during the primaries. “His son has released one year of his tax returns. Making a lie of the old adage: Like father, like son.”
Biden also plans to tell the Hispanic civil rights advocates gathered that the election is a battle between those who want Hispanics to be a part of America and those who want to keep them at a distance.
“There are voices among us who fear your inclusion. This is not new,” Biden says in the remarks. “There have always been fights between the voices of inclusion and the voices of exclusion.”
It’s clear from the speech which side Biden thinks Romney’s on.

Imagine what it will mean for civil rights, voting rights, and so much we have fought so hard for.
Imagine a Justice Department that supports, rather than challenges, continued efforts to suppress the right to vote.
Because that’s what will happen if they win.
