Colbert Suggests A ‘Change We Can Believe In’ Tip Jar To Help Dems Raise Money

Stephen Colbert

While Republican fundraising is “sunny with a chance of cash,” the financial forecast for Democrats is “partly cloudy with a chance of fighting a seagull for half a hot dog bun,” Stephen Colbert said on Wednesday.

Democrats are facing a big fundraising shortfall ahead of the national convention in Charlotte, North Carolina. Democrats only have themselves to blame, Colbert said, because they refused to accept corporate donations for the convention and are trying to raise taxes on the nation’s top 1 percent.

“So I guess you don’t need our money, Democrats,” Colbert said. “Why don’t you run along and ask your little people that you love so much. I’m sure if they reach deep down into their couch cushions, they’ll find your $27 million. And if not, maybe a tip jar on the president’s desk that says ‘change we can believe in.'”
