Keith Olbermann never left Current TV. But now that it’s been announced he will anchor special election coverage for the left-leaning network for primaries following New Hampshire, things appear to be getting back to normal.
“I am pleased that I’ll be running the election coverage on Current, following this Tuesday’s New Hampshire primary,” Olbermann said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “However, I don’t think those participating in the New Hampshire primary will share my satisfaction.”
Just last week, a flurry of reports suggested Olbermann was at war with Current. His future at the network seemed in doubt. An unnamed Current executive said “everybody is replaceable.” Current, co-founded by former Vice President Al Gore, has been busy building a primetime lineup around Olbermann’s Countdown. Cenk Uygur’s The Young Turks and former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm’s The War Room round out the before-and-after-Countdown slots.
Olbermann sat on the sidelines during the Iowa coverage because he said he wasn’t given a “legitimate opportunity to host under acceptable conditions.” Current says Olbermann declined multiple offers to anchor the coverage. Things appear to have settled down now.
“Keith has agreed to host future special election coverage on Current,” network spokeswoman Laura Nelson told TPM. “We hope this will start after New Hampshire. We’re looking forward to insight and impactful 2012 election analysis.”
