Note that the unnamed Gillespie advisor quoted in this report seemed to pivot immediately to blaming Trump. Of course, election losers often look for someone to blame. But Gillespie, as much as he totally went all out as a Trumpite candidate, is actually an establishment, money Republican. He’s someone who was almost certainly totally anti-Trump until Trump won. For those folks, the snap-back against Trump could be fierce. This isn’t to defend them in any way. Gillespie went against almost everything he’s ever stood for in Republican politics to run a slashing, racist campaign. And for that he didn’t even win.
