Just ducked out for a bit of fresh air and from our office four blocks from the White House could hear car horns blaring and see Obama supporters streaming down 16th Street. A spontaneous celebration. Mostly 20somethings. Some younger. Many older. People taking pictures. Spirits high. Raucous and happy revelers. The crowd was packed tight on Pennsylvania between Lafayette Park and the north gates of the White House itself. Someone waving a rainbow flag. A light police presence. TV trucks on the street. More people converging on the scene, after midnight. For the decidedly pro-Obama District, an outpouring of relief as much as celebration.
