Ted Stevens: 1923-2010

Through the day we’ve been bringing you news of the feared and finally confirmed death of former Sen. Ted Stevens (R) of Alaska. I do not think our reporting would be complete without noting, as most of you probably know, that for several years we reported extensively on Stevens legal entanglements, corruption charges, trial, eventual conviction and the eventual tossing out of that conviction over prosecutorial misconduct. That reporting speaks for itself as much as it did yesterday. But for those of you who aren’t as familiar with his background, the history of the state of Alaska would be hard to tell without Stevens as a key part of the story. He not only served as the state’s senator for four decades, he was also involved in founding the state itself. Here’s our obituary and look back at Stevens long life.
