Talk to the Hand!

Last week we brought you the story of Rep. Marcia Fudge (D-OH), whose top aide was targeted by the Office of Congressional Ethics and then drew up legislation to strip the Office of most of its powers. The underlying story had to do with one of her top aides, Chief of Staff Kelly Mobley, coached witnesses to cover up potentially unethical conduct related to some Caribbean junkets.

Fudge’s proposal is supported by 19 fellow members of the Congressional Black Caucus, including several who are themselves involved in other recent or on-going ethics probes. We followed up to ask all nineteen why they were supporting Fudge’s proposed changes to the powers of the office.

Not one agreed to comment or explain their position.
