The Democratic Governors Association just sent out a fundraising email featuring former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, and it’s just about the strongest language I’ve seen any Democrat short of Alan Grayson using this year:
But when I hear vows to abolish Social Security … and threats to repeal our civil rights laws … and candidates incomprehensibly defending groups that call for the execution of gays and lesbians — it is time to sound the alarm. …
I have spent over three decades in politics and I have never seen candidates as genuinely radical as the ones in today’s Tea Party.
These aren’t your Republicans of old. When I was the Democratic leader of the U.S. Senate, I could walk down the hall, visit with my Republican counterpart, and work together on important problems.
No longer. Tea Party leaders aren’t looking for common ground — they’re looking to tear down an American safety net that took our nation 100 years to build.
Even more worrisome is the fact that new Republican governors could use their power over redistricting to gerrymander the Tea Party into power for the next decade. That’s a risk we can’t afford to take.
Note in particular the direct shots at the Tea Party crowd.
