Let me flag your attention to something. The President has now repeatedly claimed that Harley Davidson is lying about the reason for shifting motorcycle production overseas. He is focused on the closure of a plant in Kansas and opening one in Thailand. The company seemed to be talking about something different from that. On its own this isn’t terribly surprising. President Trump accuses people of things all the time. But there’s something specific about this. This wasn’t a comment from the CEO or a press release. It was an 8-K filing.
This is a specific kind of SEC filing that you file to notify the public (and specifically shareholders) of important business developments relevant to the profitability and soundness of a public company. Specifically, it’s about things that could affect share price. You can’t lie. Or if you do there are serious potential legal and liability consequences. If you hide something or make a claim that is false it’s a big deal. President Trump is saying this is a lie. Keep an eye on this.
Trump Says Harley Davidson is Lying About Impact of Tariffs. Interesting Because They Stated It in Their 8-K. Trouble If It's False. pic.twitter.com/KjplBQE301
