Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski is trailing her Republican primary opponent Joe Miller 51.5% to 48.6% with 84% of precincts reporting. The raw vote spread is a bit less than 3,000 votes.
Reports out of Alaska indicate that the final result may not be known until next month, as absentee ballots trickle in.
Miller’s viability, such as it was, seemed to come from a single source: the endorsement of former Gov. Sarah Palin. But as late as yesterday, Republican and Democratic observers expected Murkowski to trounce Miller.
