Reuters is reporting an explosion* at the finish line of the Boston Marathon.
The race started early this morning, so the leaders had already finished hours before the explosion; and presumably much of the field had already crossed the finish line before the explosion occurred. But the finish line at a marathon usually remains a gathering point and center of activity for much of the day of the race, so a significant crowd could be expected to still be present.
Photos from incident are beginning to trickle in, particularly via Twitter, and include some gruesome and bloody scenes. “There are a lot of people down,” one man told the AP.
