“Fine With Hillary”

From our on-going series, TPM Reader JC is “fine” with Hillary …

So a little background about me: I’m a 24 year old daughter of Haitian immigrants, born in Rhode Island and raised in Florida. I’m not religious. I have a full-time job with great benefits, health insurance, a decent education from UF that helped me get a job I love in the field I studied. Life is pretty decent. Or at least a bit better than some other semi-recent college graduates that I know or read about. (Also, I’d be interested in knowing the demographic deets of other TPM readers, they seem like a surprisingly diverse bunch…possible future article?)

I don’t consider myself a Democrat, but I will probably vote Democrat for as long as the 2 party system reigns. I consider myself an Elizabeth Warren liberal, but I see the need for the Jon Huntsman’s of the world. No politician is perfect or has all the answers to all of our problems.

I’m not blind to Hillary’s troubling views on Wall St., her war hawk tendencies, or her dark money issue. I also don’t find her that warm, inviting, or personable (which is of course never an issue with male politicians). But given the field ahead, I’m fine with voting for her. Election cycles are built for drama, gaffes, name calling, dog whistles, and nonsense…all of which I love to watch and comment on. But I don’t foresee anything occurring that could actually change my vote for Hillary.

Side note: Becoming politically aware and eligible to vote during Obama’s first election, I must say that I’ve been spoiled by the sight of a President who looks and talks (inc. his use of social media) like someone I recognize. Hillary being the first woman president is something, but I sincerely hope we get to elect another minority of color in the future.
