As you look at the work of the “debt commission” and its potential effect on Social Security, I would be interested in hearing how your readers under the age of 50 feel about whether Social Security will actually be there for their own retirement. Not whether it should be, mind you, but whether it actually will be.
I’m 42 and am highly pessimistic about the future of social security. This is based 100% on the sense that our political leaders are too weak-willed/irresponsible and our politics too simple-minded to fight off the powerful interests focused on undermining it. But the last 16 years have made me a pretty pessimistic guy …
