But Is It Good for the Dems?

TPM Reader KB asks who Dems should be rooting for tonight.

Idea for post: what outcomes should Dems be rooting for tonight? There are multiple angles that could be good news all of which will be lost on the Morning Joe crew tomorrow – so help us out.

Some things I’m pretty sure I have good judgment on. And this isn’t really one of them. But here are a few thoughts. And I’d like to hear yours.

Nevada ends up being a bit of a tough call. I think Dems should be rooting for Sharron Angle who, as we’ll find out starting tomorrow, is a really, really extreme right-winger, and extreme enough that I think Harry Reid should be able to beat her. On the other hand, Sue Lowden, who looked pretty formidable is so damaged now that I don’t know how well she’d hold up in a general election. Recent events actually forced her campaign to make a really hard to sustain argument: that you should vote for Lowden because Reid would take Angle apart in the fall — pretty much like Reid took Lowden apart during the spring. Just a difficult argument.

So I’d have to say Angle. And Tarkanian is probably the least attractive from the point of view of the Dems.

Then there’s California. There doesn’t seem like there’s any question that the Republicans are going to send Carly Fiorina up against Barbara Boxer. And that’s probably better for the Dems than Campbell. Fiorina bulldozed through Campbell because he didn’t have the money to compete with her. She won’t be able to do that with Boxer. And Fiorina is an oppo researcher’s dream candidate. So as long as DeVore never really had a shot, Fiorina’s the one’s Dems should be rooting for.
