Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite (R-FL) has reportedly called upon Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele to resign.

Roll Call reports that Brown-Waite told this to Steele in a letter this week, in the wake of a scandal over party funds being spent at a bondage-themed nightclub. Brown-Waite has become the first sitting member of Congress to tell Steele to resign.

The RNC’s chief of staff quit earlier this week, in the wake of the party reimbursing expenses that were paid at a bondage-themed nightclub in West Hollywood. The RNC also fired the staffer who was directly involved in the spending, and has said it will recover the money. These problems seem to be leading major GOP donors to question the RNC’s credibility.

Others who have called upon Steele to resign include North Carolina GOP chair Tom Fetzer, North Carolina RNC member (and long-time Steele critic) Ada Fisher, and former Steele consultant Alex Castellanos. Earlier today, in a clear move to stop any movement against Steele, a group of 31 state GOP chairs released a letter stating their strong support for Steele, and praising his overall performance as chairman.
