Jon Stewart last night continued his impassioned efforts to draw attention to the 9/11 first responders bill that was filibustered by Senate Republicans, criticizing the major television networks for not mentioning the bill in their evening broadcast for months.

“Although, to be fair, it’s not every day that Beatles songs come to iTunes,” Stewart joked.

The bill would provide health benefits to 9/11 first responders who got sick as a result of their service. Stewart called the lack of coverage a serious disservice to the rescue workers, but he had a solution in mind.

“I hate to say this,” Stewart said, “but this is a job for Fox News, the nation’s leading source of 9/11-based outrage.” But even Fox hasn’t done the story justice, according to Stewart’s standards. The only network to give it any serious attention was Al Jazeera, Stewart said.

“Our networks were scooped with a sympathetic Zadroga Bill story by the same network that Osama bin Laden sends his mix tapes to,” Stewart said. “This is insane!”
