It’s finally over, folks. Rick Santorum — the “Pennsylvania prude” — suspended his presidential bid on Tuesday, clearing the path to the nomination for Mitt Romney.
“Even in defeat, Santorum was clear on just how impressed we should all be that a well-known former two-term senator, lobbyist and television analyst even got this far,” Jon Stewart said on Wednesday. In Santorum’s concession speech, he called the campaign “as improbable as any race that you will ever see for president.” Stewart wasn’t convinced.
“Really? Any race? Rver? Like, I don’t know, were you alive in 2008, when a black guy named Barack Hussein Obama beat a 48-term war hero senator and his flag pin of a running mate? ‘Cause that was pretty fuckin’ weird.”
And Santorum wasn’t even the most improbable thing in this GOP primary, Stewart added. “That title, I believe, still goes to a Pokemon-singing pizza magnate whose big idea in this race was a number.”
