The so-called “war on women” is a “delicious story,” Stephen Colbert said Thursday. Especially now that Republicans have “flipped the script” and accused Democrats of waging it against women.
That reversal is mostly thanks to Democratic strategist Hilary Rosen, who on Wednesday clumsily criticized Mitt Romney’s wife, Ann, for being a stay-at-home mom, giving Republicans an opening.
“I have a personal stake in this issue, because I have a mom, my mom,” Colbert said. “Which makes me half mom on my mom’s side. she was a stay-at-home mom of 11 kids, which I guess makes her twice as lazy as Ann Romney.”
Rosen has since apologized to Ann Romney, but there’s no juicy television clip of her doing so. Instead, Colbert asked his producers to run the quote across the screen and loop it on repeat over a “fat beat.”
