The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) on Thursday retracted statements alleging that billionaire Republican donor Sheldon Adelson authorized prostitution in one of his overseas casinos.
Adelson’s lawyers had threatened to sue the DCCC for the statements, which were made on June 29 and July 2. The first was titled “BREAKING: HOUSE REPUBLICANS’ BIGGEST DONOR APPROVED ‘PROSTITUTION STRATEGY’ IN CHINA” while the second was titled “HOUSE REPUBLICANS FUNDED BY CHINESE PROSTITUTION MONEY?”
The DCCC now says the allegations were “unsubstantiated.” From their retraction:
This was wrong. The statements were untrue and unfair and we retract them. The DCCC extends its sincere apology to Mr. Adelson and his family for any injury we have caused.
