JOHANNESBURG (AP) — South Africa’s presidency says Nelson Mandela is in good spirits and is making steady progress during hospital treatment for a recurring lung infection.
The office of President Jacob Zuma also says in a statement that the 94-year-old former president enjoyed a full breakfast on Friday morning.
Zuma’s office says Mandela’s doctors provided the update on his condition, and that the anti-apartheid leader remains under treatment and observation.
Mandela was admitted Wednesday night to a hospital in Pretoria, the South African capital. It is his third trip to a hospital since December.
