WASHINGTON (AP) — The chairman of the House Judiciary Committee says he want to overhaul the way the U.S. grants asylum to immigrants after the Boston Marathon bombing.
Rep. Bob Goodlatte is a Virginia Republican. He says U.S. authorities should consider whether asylum applicants are, quote, “engaging in aggressive tactics” in their home countries.
Accused Boston Marathon bombers Tamerlan Tsarnaev (TA’-mehr-luhn tsahr-NEYE’-ehv) and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev (joh-KHAHR’) are ethnic Chechen brothers from Russia who came to the United States about a decade ago with their parents. The family was granted asylum.
Tamerlan Tsarnaev was killed in a shootout with police last week. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was arrested after being found hiding, unarmed, in a boat.
