Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) isn’t just okay with the new #McConnelling viral meme, poking fun at an ad of b-roll footage* of the Minority Leader by setting it to any song; he actually likes it.

“You’ve got to be able to do that in this business,” McConnell said at a campaign event on Monday according to Time magazine. “It’s nice to have some fun occasionally.”

Recently TPM noted a strange ad McConnell’s campaign posted which seemed to really be b-roll footage of McConnell. The ad, observers suggest, really exists so pro-McConnell super PACs can use the footage in their ads without illegally coordinating with the campaign.

Jon Stewart lampooned the ad and made up the term #McConnelling, which he’s trying to make a huge twitter hashtag.

At the event on Monday Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) also embraced the McConnelling trend.

“I’ve been following the McConnelling, too, and it is wonderful to go online and to see so many smiling faces for Mitch and really seeing him in all these positions,” Ayotte said according to Time. “But it shows you also that it’s great to have a sense of humor on a campaign.”

*Wikipedia defines b-roll as “the supplemental or alternative footage intercut with the main shot in an interview or documentary.”
