Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) on Sunday said he thought New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) has done an excellent job addressing the controversy over lane closures on the George Washington Bridge last year.
“I thought he did an excellent job,” McCain said on CNN’s “State of the Union” about Christie’s performance at his Thursday press conference. “I think that he can now move on as long as another shoe doesn’t drop.”
McCain on Thursday morning said that Christie needed to answer every question about the lane closures in order to move past the escalating scandal, and McCain on Sunday said the New Jersey governor did just that.
McCain, who pegged the governor as a potential 2016 frontrunner, said he is a “great admirer of Christie.” He added, though, that Christie should have been aware of the actions of his senior aides.
“He should have known,” McCain said.
