British Prime Minister David Cameron on Wednesday told the House of Commons that he took the infamous selfie photo with President Barack Obama and Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning Schmidt at the Nelson Mandela memorial service to be “polite,” the Telegraph reported.
“In my defence I would say that Nelson Mandela played an extraordinary role in his life and in his death in bringing people together,” Cameron said when asked whether taking the photo was appropriate at a memorial service. “So of course when a member of the Kinnock family asked me for a photograph, I thought it was only polite to say yes.”
Danish Prime Minister Schmidt is the daughter-in-law of former British Labour leader Lord Kinnock.
