Wisconsin Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mary Burke may have a primary opponent. State Sen. Kathleen Vinehout (D) has hired a campaign staffer for organizing across the state, according to Wisconsin’s Leader-Telegram

It’s the latest sign that Vinehout is laying the groundwork for a gubernatorial run. She has previously said she is collecting “data points” about a decision to run for governor and plans to make her announcement in January.

“Every day I seem to be getting closer and closer to making the decision to run for governor because of the positive support I’ve found,” Vinehout told the Eau Claire, Wisconsin newspaper.

If Vinehout decides to run, she would face businesswoman Burke in the primary. National Democrats have already touted Burke as a strong candidate against Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R).
