The U.S. government spent about $2 billion on salaries of furloughed workers who could not perform their duties during the October shutdown, according to a Thursday report by the Office of Management and Budget.
Federal workers were furloughed for a combined total of 6.6 million days.
According to OMB, the government also incurred additional costs because federal workers who were not furloughed spent time preparing for and managing the shutdown.
