Following an admission that he has smoked crack cocaine, Toronto Mayor Rob Ford said Tuesday that he has an idea of what’s on the video that brought his drug use worldwide attention.

“I think I know what’s on the video and I know it’s not pretty,” Ford told the Toronto Sun. “Did I smoke something? Probably. It’s ugly.”

Toronto police said last week that they have video showing Ford smoking crack, months after the website Gawker launched a campaign to obtain the footage.

After previously denying that he smoked crack, Ford came clean during a media scrum on Tuesday.

“You asked me a question back in May,” he told a reporter. “You can repeat that question.”

“Do you smoke crack cocaine?” the reporter asked, after some initial confusion.

“Exactly,” Ford said. “Yes, I have smoked crack cocaine. But…am I an addict? No! Have I tried it? Um, probably in one of my drunken stupors, probably approximately about a year ago. I answered your question. You ask the question properly, I’ll answer it.”

Ford told the Sun that he’s relieved, and that he’s not going anywhere.

“I feel like I got 1,000 pounds off my back,” he said. “I felt I had to say it. It is what is. I feel two inches high right now but I needed to deal with it. I am not going to quit or take a leave.”

Ford’s admission came hours after his brother, Toronto City Councillor Doug Ford, lashed out at the city’s police chief.
