President Barack Obama’s campaign considered dropping Vice President Joe Biden from the 2012 ticket for secretary of state Hillary Clinton, according to a new book “Double Down” by Mark Halperin and John Heilemann.
William Daley, President Obama’s chief-of-staff at the time, reportedly signed off on conducting research for the switch.
“You have to remember, at that point the president was in awful shape, so we were like, ‘Holy Christ, what do we do?'” William Daley, told the New York Times Thursday, adding that he was just doing “due diligence.”
According to the book’s authors, the idea was dropped after research suggested Hillary Clinton would not have given Obama enough of a boost to justify making the switch.
