President Barack Obama on Thursday decried repeated political brinkmanship over the government shutdown and the federal debt ceiling that has caused untold damage to the American economy and standing abroad.
“Let’s be clear: there are no winners here,” Obama said in a statement from the White House. “We don’t know yet the full scope of the damage.”
“There was no economic rationale for all of this,” he added, arguing that lawmakers in Washington should refrain from playing games over the full faith and credit of the U.S. in the future.
