For much of the last year, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s (R) re-election has had an air of inevitability. A poll released Wednesday morning will do nothing to change that.
In Quinnipiac University’s first poll of the race to use a sample of likely voters, Christie pulled in a whopping 64 percent support, far outpacing state Democratic Sen. Barbara Buono, who trailed with only 30 percent support.
Although a likely voter poll cannot be compared to a survey that used a broader sample, Wednesday’s findings comport with Quinnipiac’s previous releases.
In fact, polls across the board have shown Christie, still enormously popular among his Garden State constituents, to be a lock in this year’s gubernatorial race.
Seventy-seven percent of likely voters surveyed by Quinnipiac said they have a favorable opinion of Christie, easily eclipsing the little-known Buono. According to Quinnipiac’s latest poll, 40 percent of likely New Jersey voters said they still haven’t heard enough about Buono.
The PollTracker Average also shows Christie with a massive lead over Buono.
