Report: Obama’s ‘Bored Kid’ Comment Infuriated Putin

President Barack Obama participates in a bilateral meeting with Russia’s President Vladimir Putin during the G20 Summit, Monday, June 18, 2012, in Los Cabos, Mexico.

President Barack Obama’s relationship with Vladimir Putin has grown even frostier after Obama said the Russian president often looks “like the bored kid in the back of the classroom” at a recent news conference, The New York Times reported Thursday.

According to the report, Putin was already suspicious of Obama following the White House’s decision earlier this month to cancel a meeting originally scheduled for next week in Moscow.

Two days after Obama nixed the meeting, he told reporters at a news conference that he doesn’t have a “bad relationship with Putin” but suggested that the Russian leader’s body language can often give outsiders the wrong impression. The comment, a Russian official told the Times, upset Putin a great deal.
