A Washington, D.C. Superior Court judge called gun rights activist Adam Kokesh “dangerous” during a Monday hearing and ordered him to remain in jail until trial, according to The Washington Post.
The hearing came weeks after Kokesh was arrested and held without bond on suspicion of gun and drug violations. He caused a stir early July when he filmed himself standing in Washington, D.C.’s Freedom Plaza with what appeared to be a loaded 12-gauge shotgun – a violation of the district’s gun laws. Kokesh later uploaded the video to YouTube.
Police said they later searched Kokesh’s house and found multiple guns along with marijuana and mushrooms.
According to the Post, Magistrate Judge Frederick Sullivan told Kokesh’s attorney, “I consider your client a very dangerous man,” and continued, “you don’t make a political statement with a gun.”
Kokesh’s next hearing is scheduled for August 13.
