Following a tentative deal to confirm a slew of presidential nominees to executive positions without the use of the “nuclear option,” the U.S. Senate on Tuesday voted to advance President Barack Obama’s nomination to run the newly created Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
Seventy one senators voted to invoke cloture and overcome a Republican filibuster on Richard Cordray’s nomination, while 29 opposed. A vote to officially confirm Cordray is scheduled for later in the day.
