House Republican leaders on Tuesday vowed to respond to the White House’s decision to delay the Obamacare employer mandate for one year, although they didn’t say how.
“I think what the President did is outrageous,” Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) told reporters. “And we’ll have another vote. Count on it.”
A Boehner spokesman declined to elaborate on what specifically the House would vote on.
He and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) characterized the move as an effort to help big businesses but not ordinary Americans, who will remain subject to the individual mandate starting 2014.
Cantor called the decision “stunning” and said the House will act to correct the “injustice.”
Boehner added, “I’m glad the president recognized his health care law is not good for the economy.”
