Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) commented Thursday on the GOP’s inability to push through its own farm bill, blaming House Republicans’ “incompetence” for failing to provide assistance to rural communities.
“We would be happy to go to conference if the House were able to pass its own farm bill, but today’s failure proves that is unlikely to happen,” Reid said in a statement. “Rural communities and families relying on nutrition assistance should not be held hostage to Republican incompetence. It’s time for Speaker Boehner to take the same approach that has proven successful in the past, and allow the House to pass the bipartisan work of the Senate.”
The Senate has already passed its own version of the legislation.
Earlier Thursday, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) called Republicans’ inability to pass the bill “major amateur hour.”
