Kentucky Activist Fesses Up To Recording McConnell Meeting

In a piece published Friday in Salon, Curtis Morrison, an activist with the troubled group known as Progress Kentucky, owned up to recording a secret campaign meeting earlier this year involving Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY).

The recording was reported on by Mother Jones last month, prompting an investigation into the group.

“Earlier this year, I secretly made an audio recording of Sen. Mitch McConnell, the most powerful Republican on the planet, at his campaign headquarters in Kentucky,” Morrison wrote. “The released portion of the recording clocks in at less than 12 minutes, but those few minutes changed my life.”

He said that he was contacted Thursday by an assistant U.S. Attorney who notified him that charges will be brought against him to a grand jury next week.

TPM made contact with Morrison last month when he was laying low and authorities were trying to locate him.
