Colbert Busch Spox Mocks Sanford For Debating ‘Phony Cardboard Cutouts’

A spokesman for Elizabeth Colbert Busch on Wednesday took a jab at Mark Sanford’s “debate” with a poster of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), saying the Democratic nominee in the special election House race “doesn’t have to resort to phony cardboard cutouts to talk with the people of South Carolina.”

Sanford on Wednesday held a faux debate with a poster of Pelosi as a protest against Colbert Busch for agreeing to only one debate with the former South Carolina governor and Republican nominee in the state’s First Congressional District.

That prompted Colbert Busch’s press secretary James Smith to issue a statement detailing her campaign schedule, which he said includes “4 events over 2 days.”

“While Mark Sanford continues his desperate campaign to deceive voters, Elizabeth Colbert Busch is spending her time with real people who support her campaign – today alone, she’s meeting with a group of Republicans for Elizabeth Colbert Busch and a rally at Burke High School,” Smith said in the statement. “She doesn’t have to resort to phony cardboard cutouts to talk with the people of South Carolina.”
