New York City Mayor Micheal Bloomberg on Monday stopped by the “Late Show with David Letterman” to discuss a judge’s ruling earlier in the day to strike down the city’s ban on large-sized sugary beverages.
Bloomberg vowed to appeal the ruling, but said “in the meantime, 70,000 Americans wil die from obesity, 5,000 here in New York.”
“We gotta do something about it,” he said.
But while Bloomberg argued that “it is incumbent on government to tell people what they’re doing to themselves,” but ultimately “people have a right to make products and people have a right to buy them.”
He then identified one junk food ban he will never support, confessing his own guilty pleasure to Letterman.
“As long as you don’t ban Cheez-Its,” Bloomberg said. “Cheez-Its are okay. That’s my addiction.”
