Bob Woodward’s feud with the White House over the looming automatic spending cuts deepened Wednesday evening. The veteran Washington journalist told CNN that a White House official told him he will regret his recent remarks about the sequester.

Woodward said the White House is “not happy at all” about his article claiming the sequester originated in the White House and stipulated only spending cuts.

A senior administration official also sent Woodward an email, he said. “It was said very clearly, ‘You will regret doing this,'” Woodward said.

TPM reported late Wednesday that Gene Sperling, director of the White House Economic Council, was the official who sent the email. A White House official told TPM that “no threat was intended in the email.”
